FORTINBERRY, GEORGE KELLIE JR.
A native of Amite, he died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his 
residence near Kentwood. He was 74. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. 
Visitation at Lewiston Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 9 a.m. until religious 
services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Otha Schilling. Interment in 
Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene Shute 
Fortinberry, Kentwood; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Braase, Roseland, and Keli 
Clara Broome, Helena, Ala.; a son, George Kenneth Fortinberry, Kentwood; four 
grandchildren and a great-grandson. Preceded in death by his parents, George K. 
and Clara Miller Fortinberry. He received a bachelor of arts degree from George 
Washington University in Washington, D.C. McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, in 
charge of arrangements.

FORTINBERRY, HUBERT W. SR.
A resident of Kentwood, he died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at North 
Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 80 and a native of Tylertown, Miss. 
Visiting was at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. 
Visiting at the funeral home, 8 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. 
Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Danny Smith. Interment in Hyde Cemetery, 
Chesbrough. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Nolan Gill, 
Jackson, and Annette and James Licklider, Baton Rouge; two sons and daughters-
in-law, Hubert W. Jr. and Beth Fortinberry, Chesbrough, and Bruce and Sherry 
Fortinberry, Kentwood; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-
great-grandchild Preceded in death by wife, Melvine Wall Fortinberry; parents, 
Hayden and Audrey Fortinberry; a stepson, Joe Bellue Sr.; a brother, LaRue 
Fortinberry; and two sisters, Lloyd Smith and Jessie Era McClendon.
