A native of Amite, he died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his residence near Kentwood. He was 74. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visitation at Lewiston Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Otha Schilling. Interment in Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene Shute Fortinberry, Kentwood; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Braase, Roseland, and Keli Clara Broome, Helena, Ala.; a son, George Kenneth Fortinberry, Kentwood; four grandchildren and a great-grandson. Preceded in death by his parents, George K. and Clara Miller Fortinberry. He received a bachelor of arts degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
