Funeral Sunday; interment in Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg. She was the widow of Captain John Freiler; the former Miss Doris Ludwig; a native of Nashville, TN; reared in New Orleans. Survived by the following children; Dr. F. J. Freiler of Greensburg, Mrs. A. B. Lee and Mrs. Doughty Kent of Kentwood, Mrs. R. A. Kent of Fluker; A. K. Freiler of Grangeville, Carl Freiler of Norfield, MS, E. G. "ED" Born in Hammond and reared in Greensburg, then traveled extensively before returning to his ancestral home in Greensburg to be near family and friends, he died at 1:22 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at St. Helena Parish Hospital. He was 75. Visiting at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, 10 a.m. Saturday until religious services at noon. Interment in Greensburg Cemetery. He attended schools in Greensburg and Port Gibson, Miss., and worked with his cousin, Herbert Freiler. He enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and served for more than six years in the medical corps, earning three medals and a citation. He was a contractor in New Orleans, ran a restaurant, then ran a record shop in the French Quarter and flew a seaplane for Baroid. He owned a marine store in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., captained charter boats in the Caribbean, developed a resort in Central America and made friends wherever he went. Survived by wife, Sally McCoy Freiler; former wife, Fay Willie Bishop, Hammond, mother of his five children: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward George Freiler III, Hawaii, and John Carl and Wendy Freiler, Florida; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Wayne Shelton, Clinton, Jean and Tommy Dykes, Montpelier, and Lori and C.W. Baudot, Kenner; seven grandchildren, Ley and Tiffany Thompson, Chansley and Kelly Dykes, John and Taylor Freiler and Brennan Baudot; and a niece, Pauline G. Turnipseed. Preceded in death by father, Edward George Freiler Sr.; mother, Grace Sessions Freiler; a sister, Charlotte Freiler Turnipseed; and a grand- daughter, Amanda Freiler. ******************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 9/10/2006 FREILER, MAUDE PERKINS CARTWRIGHT Affectionately known as "Muddie" by her children, grandchildren and friends, she died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was 87, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Amite. She was an English teacher at Greensburg High School and later at Amite High School for many years. Visitation was at Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church, Amite, on Monday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gaylord Dodgen. Interment was in Mulberry Street Cemetery, Amite. She is survived by her son, Herbert C. Freiler, Amite; two daughters, Dale P. Freiler, Amite, and Frances "Buffie" Grayson and husband Larry, Baton Rouge; grandsons, Chris Grayson, Shreveport, and Stuart Grayson, Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Sydney Freiler, Amite; sister, Melva Cox, Covington; niece, Coco Treppendahl, St. Francisville; and nephews, Robbie Cox and Sid Cox, both of Covington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Frederick Freiler; and parents, Albert Sydney and Maude Perkins Cartwright. Pallbearers were Larry Grayson, Chris Grayson, Stuart Grayson, Sid Cox, David Treppendahl and Cooper Forshag. Honorary pallbearer was Marty Crowson.
