He died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 15, 1933, in Hammond. He had been a resident of Central for more than 30 years and a Baton Rouge area barber for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of sergeant. He was an active member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Baker, where he held various offices including grand knight. He was also a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Dolly was active in the Baker and Central communities for the past 50 years. He loved being a barber and talking with his customers and friends in his shop. He was an avid hunter and supporter of high school sports. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Basso Fugarino; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Mac Wampold; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony Jr. and Morgy Fugarino and Thomas and Ann Fugarino; and grandchildren, Ann Marie Fugarino, Emily Fugarino, Matthew Fugarino and Nicholas Fugarino. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maggie Fugarino; sister, Josephine Fugarino; and grandson, Anthony Fugarino III. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 8, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at St. Isidore Catholic Church on the corner of Plank and Thomas roads, on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. ******************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 9/19/2008 FUGARINO, ANTHONY PAUL, SR. Anthony Paul Fugarino Sr., 73, a lifelong resident of Hammond, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. Mr. Fugarino was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond and worked part-time as the Holy Ghost School crossing guard until his illness. Prior to that, he and his wife owned and operated Ryan's Deli on Range Road in Hammond, having retired from Billups Petroleum Co. after 30 years. Surviving him are his wife of 53 years, Chris Mercante Fugarino; four children, Anthony Paul Fugarino Jr. and his wife, Jeannine, Ronnie Fugarino and his wife, Bridget, Donna Fugarino Taylor and David Fugarino; eight grandchildren, Stephen Fugarino, Ryan, Bryce and Jenna Fugarino, Haley and Connor Taylor, and Hannah and Layton Fugarino; and a brother and sister- in-law, Charles and Dianne Fugarino.
