Deacon Wallace Lawrence Gainey Jr., 76, of Hammond, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Hammond Nursing Home. He was born on Friday, Nov. 23, 1934, in New Orleans. Deacon Gainey served in the U.S. Army and was retired from ExxonMobil. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a deacon for 30 years with Holy Ghost Catholic Church Parish. Deacon Gainey loved visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes. He ministered to many families in funerals and baptisms. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Angelina Muscarello Gainey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Matt Meehan, and Susan and Robert McDavitt; son and daughter-in-law, Larry III and Donna Gainey; seven grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Mallory Walker, Cameron McDavitt, Corbin McDavitt, Lauren McDavitt, Andrew Gainey and Sarah Gainey; two brothers, Tom and Jim Gainey; sister, Carol Anne Bethel; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
