Baton Rouge - George Garnett Sr., 75, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Baton Rouge. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Donaldsonville. He worked with Public Belt Railroad for 30 years, until his retirement, and was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of God In Christ until his death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Garnett of Baton Rouge; six sons, James Garnett of Donaldsonville, Bernard, Roy Michael and Daniel Garnett, all of New Orleans, Israel and Jesse Garnett, both of Baton Rouge; eight daughters, Joyce Garnett Gipson of Donaldsonville, the Rev. Cynthia Garnett Wade of LaPlace, Janet Garnett Buie, Mona Ganrett Stewart and Michelle Garnett Hamilton, all of New Orleans, Georgette, Karyn and Mirian Garnett, both of Hammond; his brother, Allen Garnett of Fort Worth, Texas; his former wife, Shirley Garnett of New Orleans; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, George Garnett Jr., Cheryl Garnett Mutley and Jerard Garnett Sr; two sisters, Louise Horton and Victoria Stell; and two brothers, Lawrence Garnett and Grandison Garnett Jr. The Rev. Dwitt Brock conducted the funeral Saturday at Pleasant Valley Church of God In Christ. Burial followed in Southern Memorial Gardens, in North Baton Rouge. She was 55 years old. Visitation will be at Holden Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by Brother Shannon Watts. Interment at Springfield Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Otis Byrd; father, Archie A. Roundtree, Sr.; daughters, Renie Nicole Koppenhaver of Pennsylvania, Thesel & Rusty Hollingsworth of Springfield, Carrie Johnston and Kandyce Reid of Independence; son, Thomas Landry of Kentucky; sisters, Wanda Fitzgerald of Holden, Linda & John Jones Holden; Bobby & Virginia Roundtree of Livingston, Carrie & Barry Roundtree of Albany, Archie A. & Darla Rountree of Holden, Jessie Ray Roundtree of Pumpkin Center; six grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother, Thesel J. Roundtree; fianc/, Leroy Johnston; nephews, Cody and Wilson Fitzgerald; and niece Alycia Owens. Pallbearers will be Austin Miller, Andy Fitzgerald, Archie A. Roundtree III, Joey Redmond, Raybon Ward, Daniel Berne and Gregory Coghlan. She loved to sing and she loved picking up her cans. She was loved by many.
