He came and stood beside you, and whispered 'Come on home and rest.' You bade no one a last farewell, not even a goodbye. You were gone before we know it, and only God knows why." On Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at 7:30 p.m., our dear mother and grandmother, Lucille Jackson Garrett, slipped into a restful sleep that none but God can awake. She was called to rest at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. Lucille Garrett Jackson was born Oct. 5, 1912, to the late Sam Jackson Sr. and Bertha Hannon Jackson in Wilmer. She was the youngest of eight children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She was 93 years old. Sister Lucille was called and baptized at an early age at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Wilmer. On Nov. 27, 1933, Sister Lucille was united in holy matrimony to the late Theodore Garrett of Folsom. To this union, six children were born including a stepdaughter. Sister Lucille Jackson Garrett joined Midway Church of Christ Holiness during her young adult life after marriage to the late Theodore Garrett. The joy of her life was reading the Bible daily and listening to spirituals. One of her favorite songs was "There is a Happy Time a Coming." She was a faithful and devoted member, always willing to serve and give of herself to anyone in need. As a member of Midway, she served as president of the CWWW Band (Sisterhood) and a member of the Sunday school. She was one of the first women at her church to attend a national convention sponsored by her church organizations. She was also the manager of the church cafeteria and known to all in the community as one of the best "cooks" in Folsom. One of the most precious moments in her life was to bake a cake, a pie or cook a delicious meal and share it with friends. She leaves with loving memories three daughters and two sons-in-law, Bertha G. and Matthew Pitts of Baton Rouge, Beverly G. Williams of St. Louis, Mo., and Linda G. and Bobby Magee of Franklinton; a sister-in-law, Minell Garrett Harrison and husband Joseph of San Francisco; a devoted daughter-in-law, Carrie Lee Garrett of Folsom; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Jackson Sr. and Bertha Hannon Jackson; a stepdaughter, Catherine Garrett Lonzo; three sons, J.C. Garrett, Theotas Garrett and Roosevelt Garrett; two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, nine sibling, four sisters and five brothers. Visitation at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home, Bogalusa, was on Sunday, Sept. 24, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visiting at Midway Church of Christ Holiness USA in Folsom on Monday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Elder Leroy Divinity Jr., pastor. ***************************************************************************
