GARVER, The Rev. HERBERT 
A retired minister and a resident of Hammond, he died Wednesday, Oct. 12,
2005, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 76 and a native of
Springfield. He served as former pastor of St. Joseph Baptist Church,
Ponchatoula, Rosehill Baptist Church, Hammond, Temple Chapel Baptist
Church, Kentwood, Terrace Creek Baptist Church, Osyka, Miss., and Mount
Moriah Baptist Church, Hammond. He is survived by his longtime companion,
Gold D. Johnson; son, the Rev. Elmore Garner, Lake Charles; two daughters,
Judy M. Garner-McCray, Austin, Texas, and Debra F. Huey, Greensboro, N.C.;
two sisters, Elmore Thompson, Hammond, and Alonia Conner, Berkeley, Calif.;
four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Wake service at Mount Moriah
Baptist Church, 2311 Center Ave., Hammond, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
Funeral service at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 1005 Perrilloux St.,
Hammond, at noon Saturday, Oct. 22. Interment in Holly Gardens Cemetery,
Hammond.
