SR. A resident and native of Ponchatoula, he died Friday, June 30, 2000, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 79. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, having served in World War II and the Korean War. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday. Religious services at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Josephine Hungate Gassen, Ponchatoula; two sons, Charles J. Gassen Sr., Lafayette, and Hollis C. Gassen Jr., Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles J. Gassen Jr., New York, Karen Elaine Gassen, Kingwood, and Michelle R. Gassen and Strader M.C. Gassen, both of Lafayette; and a sister, Eloise Zabbia, Ponchatoula. Preceded in death by his parents. He was a member and Eucharistic minister of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, a member of Knights of Columbus John F.
