GASSEN, HOLLIS C. SR.
A resident and native of Ponchatoula, he died Friday, June 30, 2000, at North 
Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 79. He was retired from the U.S. Coast 
Guard, having served in World War II and the Korean War. Visitation at Harry 
McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday. 
Religious services at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, at 11 a.m. Monday. 
Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Josephine Hungate 
Gassen, Ponchatoula; two sons, Charles J. Gassen Sr., Lafayette, and Hollis C. 
Gassen Jr., Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles J. Gassen Jr., New York, 
Karen Elaine Gassen, Kingwood, and Michelle R. Gassen and Strader M.C. Gassen, 
both of Lafayette; and a sister, Eloise Zabbia, Ponchatoula. Preceded in death 
by his parents. He was a member and Eucharistic minister of St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Ponchatoula, a member of Knights of Columbus John F. Kennedy Council 
2957, Hammond, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

GASSEN, JOSEPHINE HUNGATE 
A resident of Ponchatoula, she died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at North Oaks
Medical Center, Hammond. She was 84 and a native of Summit, Miss.
Visitation at First Presbyterian Church, Ponchatoula, from 9 a.m. Thursday,
Aug. 5, until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Ponchatoula
Cemetery. Survived by two sons, Hollis Gassen Jr. of Kingwood, Texas, and
Charles J. Gassen of Youngsville; four grandchildren, Charles Gassen Jr. of
Pleasant Valley, N.Y., Strader Michael Gassen of Youngsville, Michelle R.
Gassen of Metairie and Karen Elaine Gassen of Kingswood, Texas; two great-
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her
husband, Hollis C. Gassen Sr.; parents, Emma Bird Hungate and Harry
Hungate; brother, Harry Bird Hungate; and sister, Mary Alice Clarke. Harry
McKneely & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
