GAULT, FLORENCE PEARL DICKERSON
Former Ponchatoula teacher Florence Pearl Dickerson Gault passed away on 
December 19, 2006, in Browns Township, Michigan.  She was 89.  Born to 
William and Artemesia "Measy" Dickerson on December 26, 1916, in Cuthbert, 
South Dakota, she moved with her family to Ponchatoula when just a child. 
She began her teaching career in St. Tammany Parish, later transferring to 
Ponchatoula schools. While visiting her brother's home in Detroit, Michigan, 
she met and eventually married Sherrill Gault. The two continued to make 
their home in the Detroit area where she earned her Master's Degree at Wayne 
State University. She and her husband raised two sons, Bill and John, before 
retiring to Louisiana in the late 1970s. After her husband's death in 1985, 
she remained in Ponchatoula for several years, spending some time in both 
Texas and Michigan with her sons, until Hurricane Katrina forced her to move 
back to Michigan to be near her son John.  She was preceded in death by her 
parents, William and Artemesia Dickerson; her husband, Sherrill; four 
sisters, Frances Powell, Wilma Lamp, Lena Butler, and Hazel Lavigne; and 
two brothers, Lawrence "Dick" Dickerson and Charles "Ray" Dickerson.  She 
is survived by two sons, William "Bill" Gault of Ft. Worth, Texas, and John 
Gault of Browns Township Michigan; three grandsons, Kevin of Detroit, 
Michigan, Todd of Kansas City, Michigan, and William of Marine City, 
Michigan; and one sister, Verena Bagshaw of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Burial 
was on her birthday, December 26, 2006, in Sand Hill Cemetery.
