POWELL Hilda M. Powell Gautreaux, 68 years old of Independence, Louisiana, died Sunday, December 2, 2007, in North Oaks Medical Center. She was born on Tuesday, September 19, 1939, in Hammond, Louisiana, daughter of the late Andrew Arnold ³Buddy² Peters and Laura Mae Palmer Peters. Surviving are 3 sons & daughters-in-law, Randy and Viola Powell, Ronald and Tammy Powell, and Richard and Carla Powell; 2 step sons & daughters-in-law, Alvin and Debbie Gautreaux, Jr., and Ronald and Patti Gautreaux; 3 step daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Gay Batts, Brenda and Danny Christian, and Debbie and John Harward; 2 brothers, Gilbert Peters, and Dewitt Peters; a sister, Sylvia Harper; 19 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin J. Gautreaux; her first husband, Claude M. Powell; and a brother, Gordon Peters. Friends were received Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., and on Thursday, after 8:00 a.m. until services. Services were held in the Funeral Home Chapel, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Larry Kropog officiating. Interment followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Rosella was born on Saturday, Sept. 22, 1917, in Kentwood. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was also a secretary for the church. Surviving are her three daughters, Janet Watts of Ponchatoula, Mary Lynn Gauthreaux of Tickfaw and Brenda Gauthreaux of Kingswood, Texas; two sons, Clyde Gauthreaux of Marietta Ga., and Tommy Gauthreaux of Ponchatoula; son-in-law, Larry Watts; daughter-in-law, Jackie Gauthreaux; three grandchildren, Brad Watts, Erin Watts Swenson and Byron Gauthreaux; three great-grandchildren, Scott Swenson, Lawrence Watts and Helen Watts; and a sister, Vivian Kemp of Ethel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas Claude Gauthreaux; parents, Lester Joseph Vessier and Louise Ayraud Vessier; and brothers, Jules, Arthur and Lester Vessier.
