Ponchatoula - Lyle H. Gildermaster, 79, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002. He was reared in Princeton, Ill., a Army Corps veteran during World War II and a pilot for Chicago and Southern Airlines who later merged with Delta Airlines from which he retired. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association and chairman of Delta's Master Executive Council of ALPA. He was also a member of Munholland United Methodist Church in Metairie, First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula and First Presbyterian Church of Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, Eugene Gildermaster of Washington, Ill.; five children, Lark Smith of Onancock, Va., Gail Starkey of Ponchatoula, Marshall Lane Gildermaster of Severna Park, Md., Lura Beth Rhodenbaugh of Oxford, Ohio, Lynette Gildermaster of Evergreen, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mildred Gildermaster. His remains have been donated to the LSUHSC Neuroscience Center of Excellence. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
