He was 75, a native of Roseland and a resident of Zachary. He retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and the city-parish. Visitation at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, on Friday, May 14, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pride Ward, Milldale Road in Zachary on Saturday, May 15, from 3 p.m. until service at 4 p.m., conducted by Bishop Darwin Phenald. Interment in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sally Kelly Goynes; daughter, Lora Goynes Warren and husband Trey Warren, of Baton Rouge; two sons, Scott Goynes, of Houston, and Ross Goynes and wife Stacey Comeaux Goynes, of Pride; sister, Waltrine Miller, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; brother, Harry Goynes, of Arcola; and 10 grandchildren, Karley Goynes, Cory Goynes, Sean Goynes, Logan Goynes, Lesley Goynes, Mason Goynes, Claire Goynes, Loryn Goynes Law, Lindsey Warren and Leyna Warren. Preceded in death by his father, Alton A. Goynes; mother, Eleanor Cier Goynes; son, Kyle Allen Goynes; and grandson, Chase Allen Warren. He received his bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and master's degree in education from LSU. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
