He was retired from the U.S. Navy and the Florida Department of Corrections. Mr. Griffing was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Hammond. He attended Magnolia Baptist Church. Visitation was at Seale Funeral Home in Livingston on Friday, Jan. 13, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Richard Wallace. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Griffing; stepchildren, Nelda and Larry Brown, Dale Cannon and Wesley Cannon; three grandchildren, Lance Brown, Patrick Cannon and Joel Cannon; a great-grandchild, Link Cannon; and a niece, Sandra Easterly. Mr. Griffing was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Griffing; parents, A.J. Griffing and Ethel D. Flowers; and a brother, Wyndell Price.
