She was born on Jan. 5, 1922, in New Orleans. Before retiring, Mrs. Guichet owned and operated Cecile's House of Fashion in Ponchatoula. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, Red Impressions Red Hat Society and the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Gregoire and husband John, and Brenda Harris and husband John; three sons, Charles W. Bates and wife Sandra, Jackson P. Bates and wife Kay, and Donald W. Bates Sr. and wife Karen; five grandsons, six granddaughters, 20 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, two brothers, Horace and Charles DeGruy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Harvey H. and Edna Cecile Geoffrey DeGruy; first husband, Jack Bates; second husband, Bill Evans; third husband, Julius Guichet; and two brothers, Harvey and Melvin DeGruy. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula on Sunday, May 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula on Monday, May 25, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. September 9, 1948 - September 16, 2012. A resident of Ponchatoula, La and a native of Baton Rouge, La passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, La., at the age of 64.
