As a U.S. veteran of World War II from 1942 to 1944, he served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Anzio, Italy. While serving in Italy, he was wounded and received a medical discharge. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge. In 1982, he retired as the founder and former owner of the Henry Guillaume Roofing Co., Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita P. Guillaume; children and spouses, Joyce G. Chauvin and husband Errol, Henry R. Guillaume and spouse Lou, Rita G. Nettles and husband Russell, and James W. Guillaume and wife Christine; grandchildren, Kim C. Melancon and husband Roy, Dale A. Nettles and wife Tracie, Todd K. Chauvin and wife Sonya, Dawn N. Dodson and husband Toby, Henry Clay Nettles and wife Jennifer and Russell Jason Nettles; great-grandchildren, Kelsie, Shelby, Anthony and Collin; a sister, Marguerite Delaney and husband John of Baton Rouge; a brother, Raymond Guillaume of Zachary; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph; sisters, Isabelle, Elvira, Louise and Eualie; and great-grandson, Henry Clay. He was a member of Company D, 334th Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, World War II Memorial charter member, St. Patrick Usher Society, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs and a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Roy Melancon, Dale Nettles, Todd Chauvin, Toby Dodson, Clay Nettles and Jason Nettles. Visitation was at Green-oaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Thursday, March 3, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation on Friday, March 4, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Gerard Martin. Raymond Roger Guillaume Sr., a resident of Zachary, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary, following a short illness. He was 81 and a native of Independence. He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Zachary. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the post-war occupation forces in Germany. He was a retired member of Carpenters Local Union 1098. Survivors include his son, Raymond Jr. and wife Ingrid; daughters, Karen and husband Gary Norwood, and Sandy and husband Bruce Gibson; daughter-in- law, JeNelle Guillaume; six grandchildren, Ronnie Norwood, William Norwood, Kris Panages, Teri Shelton, Adam Gibson and Samantha Gibson; six great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Felicie Chenevert Guillaume; wife, Bernice; son, Dennis; five sisters, Elvira Allelo, Isabelle Matherne, Louise Robinson, Eulalie Tallo and Marguerite Delaney; and two brothers, Joseph P. Guillaume and Henry C. Guillaume. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Oct. 30, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Bayhi. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Lane Regional Medical Center, especially nurse Ginger McCray.
