She was a native of French Settlement and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Group and Ladies Altar Society and a volunteer with the Council on Aging. She was a member of the first graduation class of French Settlement High School. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara G. Lambert, French Settlement, Ruby G. Gonzales, Gonzales, Ruthella G. Thibeau, Galvez; sister, Beatrice Vicknair, Ponchatoula; three brothers, Eddie, Alvin and John P. Aydell, all of Baton Rouge; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great- grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great- grandchild. Her husband, Luke Elda Guitreau; two sons, Luke Jr. and Alvin Guitreau; two daughters, Audrey St. Pierre and Ethel Agnes Guitreau, preceded her in death. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, tonight from 5 to 10 and Thursday from 8 until 9:15 a.m. and at St. Joseph Catholic Church, French Settlement, from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 11. The Rev. James Kinkead will conduct the service, and burial will be in French Settlement Community Cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 8/5/2000 GUITREAU, BELLE RASBERRY A resident of Ponchatoula and a native of Oakdale, she died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Saturday, conducted by J. Macintosh. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Survived by her husband, E.P. "Red" Guitreau; a son, E. Paul Guitreau Jr.; and a daughter, Jacqueline Burnett, all of Ponchatoula; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grand- children. Preceded in death by a son, Robert Brecheen; parents, sisters and brothers. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a nurse and a pioneer in the nursing home industry for 40 years. She was involved in the management of Belle Maison Nursing Home and the former Our Home and Kemp Street nursing homes. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 4/27/2008 GUITREAU, ELWOOD "RED" PAUL, SR. Mr. Elwood "Red" Paul Guitreau Sr. 83 years old, a longtime resident of Ponchatoula, died Thursday April 24, in Belle Maison Nursing Home. Red was born Dec. 23, 1924 in French Settlemant LA. "Red" Guitreau was a pioneer of the nursing home industry in Louisiana. Along with his wife Belle and her daughter Jackie they started working in the industry in 1958. The managed the Our Home nursing home in Albany until 1958. In 1961 Red and Belle purchased the Kemp Street Nursing Home in Ponchatoula. They were involved as members of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association for many years and helped in improving the nursing home standards we have today. Belle Maison Nursing Home was established in 1974 with Red as the Administrator/Owner and he helped develop the standards of quality care that are in practice today. His service as a member of the Board of Directors of Belle Maison Nursing Home will be greatly missed. In 1983 Red was a Charter member of the Westside Baptist Church. He served on many committees and was a church deacon. Red was a member of the Ponchatoula Rotary Club from 1961 until his death. During these 46 years he served on the board of directors and as President of the club. He was noted as a hard worker for many years on the fund raising projects. The family would like to thank the staff of Belle Maison Nursing Home for the quality care he received during his stay at the nursing home. Also special thanks to the sitters who gave him much comfort. Surviving are son & daughter-in-law, Paul and Sharon Guitreau; half daughter, Jacqueline Burnett; 2 grandsons and their wives, Kevin and Marilyn Guitreau and Brent and Molly Guitreau; grandson, Lance Guitreau; sister, Dorothy Powers. He is preceded in death by wife; Belle R. Guitreau, parents; Claytuce Guitreau and Bella Keller Guitreau, half son; Bobby Brecheen.. Friends will be received Sunday, April 27, 2008, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 6:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. and on Monday from 9:00a.m. until services. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel in Ponchatoula, Monday, April 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Hammond, Louisiana 70403.
