GUNNELL, DAVID WILLIAM
A retired educator with 26 years of service, having taught science at Doyle
High School in Livingston, he died Monday, May 15, 2000, at St. Tammany
Parish Hospital, Covington. He was 80, a resident of Hammond and a native
of Lincoln County, Miss. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as
a U.S. Army T/3 with the 112th Signal Radio Intelligence Company in the 
Pacific Theater. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond,
from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation at Immanuel Baptist Church
from noon until religious services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the
Rev. Lonnie Wascom. Interment in Rose Memorial Cemetery. Survived by his
wife, Mary Cleo Gunnell, Hammond; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael David
and June Freeman Gunnell, Silver Creek, Miss.; a daughter and son-in-law,
Rebecca Anne and David M. Edwards, Hammond; two grandchildren, Christopher 
David Edwards and Stephen Paul Edwards; two stepgrandchildren, Jeremy
Freeman Schnell and Cassandra Christin Schnell; a sister, Annie Magee,
Shreveport; a brother, Carroll Gunnell, Brookhaven, Miss.; nieces and
nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Estus and Annie Moak
Gunnell; and two brothers, Estus and Shelton Gunnell. He was educated at
Ruth School, Ruth, Miss., Copiah Lincoln Junior College, Wesson, Miss., and
Mississippi State College, Starkville, Miss. He was a charter member of
Immanuel Baptist Church, Hammond.
