A retired cement finisher and a resident of Baker, he died on Monday, May 11, 2009, at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary. He was 69 and a native of Tylertown, Miss. Visiting at Promised Land Baptist Church, 7234 Plank Road, on Friday, May 15, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Perry Wright. Interment in Thomas Chapel Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Pearlie Mae Gutter, of Baker; three daughters, Lillian Gutter, Janice Gutter, and Shirley Talbert and husband Eddie; a son, James Earl Gutter; a stepson, Raymond Sims; two step- daughters, Shirley Brown and husband Joseph, and Bess Franklin, all of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Naomi Jones and husband Henry, of Clinton, Myrtis Knox and husband Von, of McComb, Miss., and Wilder Ruth Cyrus and husband Teddie, of Columbia, Miss.; an aunt, Lena Gutter, of Hammond; three uncles, John and Charles Gutter, both of Hammond, and James Gutter, of Tangipahoa; a great-uncle, Iassiac Gutter, of Tylertown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Katricia Gutter; and a sister, Charlean Magee.
