A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend died Saturday, March 24, 2012. He was 85 and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and formerly of Metairie and Wichita, KS, where he was born. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Hale, Baton Rouge, and Karen Kirschbaum and her husband, Mark Kirschbaum, of Prince Frederick, MD; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua Kirschbaum; and niece, Diann Hale, Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by wife, Maxie Simmons Hale; parents, Charles Hale Sr. and Ellen Jones; and brothers, Charles Hale Jr. and Clark Hale. At age 18, he served in the 17th Infantry Regiment in Okinawa during World War II and earned a bronze battle star for his Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon. He worked for many years with the Boeing Company and then in 1970 serving at the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, where he retired in the 1990's. George was a caring friend and a dear father and grandfather who immensely enjoyed his grandchildren. He had true appreciation for a long and blessing-filled life. His family will miss him deeply. Tribute to John H. Hale, outstanding citizen of Ponchatoula who died December 25, 1948. He was born in Point la Hache, was reared in New Orleans, and lived in Ponchatoula for 47 years.
