He was a native of Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Watkins Hammond of Amite; three daughters, Soumekie Moore of Hammond, Jayalylae Coston of Independence, and Creola Bell of Hammond; two sons, Henry Frank Hammond Jr. of Columbus, Ga., and Darren Domain Hammond of Lafayette; 10 sisters, Viola Daniels, Victoria Rodgers, Ruby Mayberry, Clara LaCour, Shirley Rodgers, Edna Rodgers, Dorothy McKnight, all of Houston, Rose Zanders of Amite and Gladys Hayes and Dinah Williams, both of Hammond; five brothers, Wavie Rodgers, Victor Rogers, Herbert Rodgers, all of Houston, Johnny Thrashers, Gerald Thrashers of Hammond; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delia Hammond Rogers; his father, Henry Hayes; one brother, Henry Rodgers. Visitation will be today at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Samuel Brown will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hammond, and burial will be in Butler's Cemetery, Amite. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 3/28/2009 HAMMOND, JEFFREY SCOTT Scottie Hammond, 39, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his home in Prairieville. He went to claim his heavenly healing after a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was a 20-year veteran of the Baton Rouge City Police Department, where he was a corporal in the motorcycle division. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Union of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid competitor in the motorcycle competitions nationwide, an LSU fan and loved NASCAR races. Visiting at Parkview Baptist Church on Friday, March 27, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Russ Kuyrkland. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Miss. Scottie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Hammond and Glenda Gatlin May; and grandparents, Walter and Connie Hammond and H.R. and Eva Gatlin. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Esther Hammond, of Prairieville; a stepson, Mitch Nordstrom, of Prairieville; son, Landon, of Lake Charles; stepdad, Glen May, of Baton Rouge; brother, Lamar Hammond, of Magnolia; half brother, Timothy May, of Prairieville; stepsister, Susan Talbot, of Houston; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bert and Brenda Schenk, of Kentwood; brother-in-law, Cain Schenk, of Walker; special grandmother, Maryetta Morris, of Magnolia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also survived by his brothers and sisters in the Baton Rouge Police Department along with countless motor officers throughout the country. A retired cook with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, she died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at her daughter's home. She was 84, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Independence. Visiting at Rhema Christian Center, 7850 Plank Road, on Friday, Sept. 12, was from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Religious service at New Light Baptist Church, 650 Blount Road, on Saturday at 11 a.m., conducted by Apostle Wilbert Scott. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Ann Porter and Carolyn Yvonne Haynes; son-in-law, Ronald V. Haynes Sr.; sister, Myrtis Barnes; brother, John Guarian Sr. and wife Peggy; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Roberts; father, Luke Roberts; and former husbands, Robert Williams and Earl Joseph Hammond.
