Springfield - Walter E. Harkcom, 61, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at North Oaks Medical Center. A native of Springfield, he was a boilermaker and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a charter member of AmVets Post 68 and member of D.A.V. Chapter 50 and Woodmen of the World Lodge 1256. His survivors include two sons, Wally Harkcom, Clarksville, Tenn., and Charles Harkcom, Springfield; four grandchildren; his mother, Ruth Alice Stine, Helena, Mont.; three sisters, Doris Stine of Helena and Darlene Hall of Missoula, Mont., and Ruth Birdsong of New Mexico; two brothers, Larry Harkcom of Beverton, Ore., and Richard Stine of Helena. His wife, Joyce Harkcom, and father, Earl W. Harkcom, preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, Tuesday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 until the funeral at 10 a.m. The Rev. E. Rand Guy will conduct the service, and burial will follow in Carter Cemetery. ***************************************************************************
