A resident of Baton Rouge, she died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. She was 81 and a native of Kentwood. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home chapel, 6700 Florida Blvd., 10 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Ponchatoula, at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn N. and Harold J. Lassabe; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas J. and Alice Newman; three sisters, Julia Arnold, Beulah Thomas and Gwinette Brumfield; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by first husband, William E. Newman; second husband, Joseph E. Hartmann; a son, Donald Ray Newman; three brothers, Clifford, Thomas and Joe Terry; and two sisters, Ethel Williams and Frooza DeBlanc. Pallbearers will be Jimmie Ray Hunter Jr., Rhett Newman, Ronald Newman, Rick Newman, Gary Comeaux and Phillip Arnold.
