A resident of Ponchatoula, he died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Landmark Living Center, Hammond. He was 89 and a native of LaPlace. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday. Religious services at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by a Dominican priest. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Survived by his wife, Rita Kugler Haydel, Ponchatoula; two daughters, Judith Haydel Guillaume, Baker, and Kathleen Haydel Pellichino, Hammond; a son, James A. Haydel III, Ponchatoula; a sister, Ida Methurne, Norco; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
