Carl E. Heck, 95, a native of Brusly and a resident of Thibodaux for more than 50 years, died Sunday, July 23, 2006. Visitation at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Thibodaux, on Tuesday, July 25, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Verna Mae Talbot Heck; daughter, Susan Heck Schwab of Houma and husband Jerry Schwab; two sons, Carl E. Heck Jr. of Houma and wife Amelia and David T. Heck of Thibodaux and wife Anita; two sisters, Lilla May Moreau Bennett and Virgie Heck, both of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J.B. Heck and Hortense Dupont Heck, who were of Brusly; three sisters, Elsie Olinde, who was of New Roads, Julia Cassidy, who was of Baton Rouge, and Ollie Sheffield, who was of Kentwood; and three brothers, Harold Heck, who was of Baton Rouge, Berlin Heck, who was of Calhoun, and Herman Heck, who was of Thibodaux. He received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from LSU at the age of 20 in 1931. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He was the first licensed civil engineer in Lafourche Parish and was a consulting engineer since 1949. He located and marked the location of the first offshore oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. He formed and was the first president of the Bayou Chapter of the Louisiana Engineering Society in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption and St. Mary parishes. He was a past grand marshal of the Thibodaux Fireman's Fair and a past director of Citizens Bank and Trust of Thibodaux. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 5/28/2013 HECK, ELDON CLARK Eldon Clark Heck went home to be with his Lord and Savior May 25, 2013. Eldon was born July 16, 1928 to Freeman J. Heck, Sr., and Irene Roy Heck. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Freeman J. Heck, Jr., and an infant sister. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Peggy Ritter Heck; children Nancy, Brian (Marie), Irene (Walter Organ) and Ellen; grandchildren Jamie (Eric Heston), Mark (Kelly), Kristen (Joseph Pepe), Nathan (Kara), Celeste and Thomas; great- grandchildren Tyler, Carissa and Jude; his younger brother Jack (Dotty), sister-in-law Dorothy and a host of other family members and friends. Eldon was a native of New Orleans, resided most of his life in Arabi, and after hurricane Katrina relocated to Ponchatoula. A devoted Christian, Eldon's faith was extremely important to him. His church families included St. Matthew's (N.O.), Gethsemane Lutheran (Chalmette) and St. Paul Lutheran (Hammond). Eldon graduated from Tulane University with a Masters Degree in Architecture and served proudly in the Louisiana National Guard. He led the firm of Heck & Carey, Architects for many years in St. Bernard Parish. Eldon designed/built/renovated numerous facilities and churches across the southeast portion of the United States, including a number of schools/facilities for the St. Bernard Parish School System, the St. Bernard Cultural Center, the original Cabrini High School, Gethsemane Lutheran, Holy Trinity Lutheran, Love Lutheran, Peace Lake Towers, St. Bernard Manor, and many others. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Louis Boldt will preside over the service.
