He was born on September 3, 1928, in Owensboro, Kentucky, son of the late William and Martha Ashby Heflin. Mr. Heflin was a member of First Christian Church in Hammond, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and a retired Geologist from Exxon in Metairie. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen Rice Heflin; daughter and son-in- law, Karen Heflin Nelson and Steven Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Becky Heflin; grandsons, Matthew, Steven, and Zachary Heflin; brothers, Levon and Joe Heflin; sisters, Dena Sue Montgomery, Betty Kay Melander, and Phyllis Shelton. He is preceded in death by Lockery Heflin, Gaynell Motherhead, and Anna May Fleming.
