She was the daughter of the late Esther Lavigne and the late William Heitman; sister of Eunice H. Cotton and Ruth Duvic, both of Ponchatoula, and the late Alexander L., Horace W. and William B. Heitman, Mrs. Merle H. Hosch, Clara L., Arthur J. and Henry S. Heitman; and niece of the late Louisiana Heitman. Also survived by her caregiver and friend for many years, Linda Pohlmann; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives, friends of the family, members of Salem United Church of Christ and staff of Covenant Nursing Home are invited to attend the funeral from the chapel of Bultman Funeral Home, 3338 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, on Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Malcolm Richard officiating. Entombment will be in Lakelawn Mausoleum. He was 47 and a native of Ponchatoula. Visiting at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 330 W. Pine St., Ponchatoula, from 9 a.m. Saturday until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Justin Kauchak. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by his mother, Gloria Tucker Heitman McCarthy of Ponchatoula; stepfather, Joseph McCarthy of Ponchatoula; two sisters, Cindy Heitman Fletcher of Hammond and Judy Heitman Bergeron of Walker; three brothers, Tim Heitman and Danny Heitman, both of Baton Rouge, and Randy Heitman of Newport News, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a native of Ponchatoula and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 55 years. She was born on Tuesday, June 2, 1925, in Ponchatoula, daughter of the late Louis and Della Hoover Howes. Mrs. Heitman was a charter member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church which will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne Elise and Leon Richardson, Nancy Jean and Charles Weaver, and Kathy Dell Heitman; three grandsons and their wives, Lee Jacob and Bria Richardson, Josh and Jessica Richardson, and Mark and Megan Richardson; granddaughter, Jamie Elise Weaver; three great-grandchildren, Allee Grace Richardson, Anna Kate Richardson and Macauley Grace Richardson; brother and sister-in-law, John Booth and Rosie Dee Howes; sister and brother-in-law, Jean Howes and Marvin Tanner; and sister-in-law, Eunice Heitman Cotton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Jacob Heitman; and brother, Louis Howes. A native of Toombs County, Ga., and longtime resident of Macon, she was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in women's missionary work. She was a 1929 graduate of Lanier High School and 1932 graduate of Georgia State College and did graduate studies at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., where she worked for the U.S. Civil Service Commission. She belonged to the Macon Creative Writers Club. Her husband, Ponchatoula native Horace W. Heitman, preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Horace William Heitman, Silver Springs, Md. The funeral was Sunday afternoon at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
