"CONNIE" A resident of Baker, she died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2006, at Hospice of Baton Rouge Inpatient Unit. She was 65 and a native of St. Louis. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Wednesday, July 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home chapel on Thursday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. David Murray. Entombment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. She is survived by her husband, James C. "Jimmy" Helmke of Baker; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynelle and James Meadows of Zachary and Tracy and Mark Kallies Sr. of Walker; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Helmke of Baker and Jason and Cindy Helmke of Zachary; three sisters, Clair Parrish of Zachary, Shelia Wheat of Mississippi and Betty Lambert of St. Amant; two brothers, Van Osborne of Hammond and Mike Osborne of Holden; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsey Meadows, Jessica, Jake and Jared Helmke, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Mark Kallies Jr. and Catlin Kallies; and a great-grandson, Alexander Ethan Kallies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Connie Lee Osborne and Nell Parrish; and maternal grandparents, Ernest and Clara Cockerham. Pallbearers will be James and Joshua Meadows, Mark Kallies Sr., Staff Sgt. Mark Kallies Jr. and Van and Mike Osborne. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Helmke and Thomas Dunn. She was a dedicated volunteer with Little League Baseball, having served on the district staff for 12 years as assistant district administrator for Louisiana District 2. She was also an active member of Baker Little League for 28 years, having served as coach, manager, board member and four tenures as president. She was an active member of the Baker Civic Club, having served as secretary from 1999 to 2005. Employed by the state of Louisiana, she worked at Southern University Law Library. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
