He was 63 and a native of Rayville, son of William H. Hendrix and Clydis Weatherford Hendrix of Rayville, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Rayville High School, received a football scholarship from LSU in 1954 and complete his college football career as captain of LSU's 1958 national championship team. He was named All-State and honorable mention All-American at Rayville High School. At LSU, he was president of the LSU "L" Club for two years and named All Southeastern Conference and honorable mention All-American. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education and social studies and a master's degree in administration/supervision from McNeese State University. During his 30 years in education, he was committed to both the academic and athletic training of the young people with whom he worked and to community service. He was a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, serving on its executive committee for eight years and as its president from 1986 to 1989. He was inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame in 1989, which is sponsored by the LHSAA and the LHSCA. He was also a member of the American Football Coaches Association, the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, NEA, Louisiana High School Principals Association, Avoyelles Administrators Association, Avoyelles Educators Association and the Rotary Club of Bunkie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard of Louisiana. A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Maud Dugas Hendrix; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Ray Hendrix II and his wife, Lisa, of Alexandria, and Christopher Lynn Hendrix and his wife, Jeanne, of New Roads; a stepdaughter, Angela and her husband, Dwight Paul Normand, of Simmesport; a stepson, Pierre Curtis Bowman Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Walker; seven grandchildren, Shelley and her husband, Danny Tanner, of Baker, Ashley Bowman of Baton Rouge, Curt Bowman III of Walker, Amber Normand of Simmesport, Ramsey and Cooper Hendrix of Alexandria, and John Mason Hendrix of New Roads; two great-grandchildren, DeLanie and Landon Turner of Baker; two sisters, Rosalie "Sissy" and her husband, Don Alonzo, of Lafayette, and Elsie Stanley of Rayville; a brother, William Weatherford and his wife, Louise, of Monroe; his mother-in-law, Yvette B. Dugas of Simmesport; a brother-in-law and his wife, Victor and Susan Dugas of Simmesport; a sister-in-law and her husband, Elvina and Leroy Dukes of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Escude Funeral Home, Simmesport. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting for family and friends at Rayville United Methodist Church, Rayville, from 11:30 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Thursday. She was 88 and a native of Benton, Ark. Visiting was at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home chapel, Ponchatoula, 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by two sons, John L. Hendrix, Pearl River, Miss., and Donald M. Hendrix, Ponchatoula; seven grandchildren, Lesley Hendrix, Stephanie Benderwald, Jason Hendrix, Keri Hendrix, Casey Hendrix, Taylor Hendrix and Dana Hendrix; and three great-grandchildren, Bradley Hendrix, Haley Hendrix and Kaylee Hendrix.
