Basil Clovis Hendry Sr. died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home at the age of 85. He was born April 4, 1919, a native of Amite and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Vic Messina. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Saizan Hendry; and a son, Gary Gene Hendry. He is survived by a son, Basil Clovis "Tookie" Hendry Jr.; a daughter, Susan Hendry Hogan; eight grand- children and four great-grandchildren. He was a retired chairman of the board of Clovis Hendry Industries Inc. and former president of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association, the first Southerner elected to that office. He was former president of the Baton Rouge Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association and co-author of "The Architectural Sheet Metal Manual," recognized internationally as the "bible" of the trade. He was director of the Men's Choir at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for more 40 years. Many will remember his "'Big Band" orchestra "The Musical Monarch" which played in the Gulf Coast region in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He was also a member of St. George Catholic Church, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion. I Timothy 4:7-8. Cecil Russell Hendry went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Denham Springs. She was 103, born Dec. 27, 1901, in Arcola. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Hendry and John M. "Sonny" Parker, Denham Springs. She had four grandchildren, Sherri Parker, Denham Springs, Barrett and Leslie Abernathy Parker, Wake Forest, N.C., Brian and Johan Parker Barbre, Houston, and Henry and Kristen Parker Stremlau, St. Louis; seven great-grandchildren, Laura and Sarah Barbre, Meredith, Scott, and Daniel Parker and Thomas and Elaine Stremlau; and two special great-granddaughters, Lauryn Pollard, Birmingham, Ala., and Layne Pollard, Baton Rouge. She had three nieces, Mary Ruth Mirmelstein, Williamsburg, Va., Betty Connell, Jackson, and Jerry King, Amite. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Clyde Hendry; an infant daughter, Sarah Catherine Hendry; her parents, Lee Lafayette and Sarah Norwood Russell; three sisters, Una R. Goodbee, Lucy R. Bankston and Mollie Gene R. Ricks; two brothers, Glenn Dent Russell and Clarence "Cootie" Lee Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecil was a longtime member of Amite Church of Christ. After Clyde's death, she moved to Denham Springs and remained there for more than 38 years. All whom you touched and loved will miss you greatly. Leon Coats Hendry died of natural causes on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 78, born Aug. 16, 1930, in Ponchatoula. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development with 30 years of service and later retired from Grady Crawford Construction with 18 years of service. In his spare time, he was a volunteer reserve deputy for East Baton Rouge Parish and enjoyed boating, classic cars, music and dancing in his spare time. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the St. James Masonic Lodge in Baton Rouge. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. His children remember him as a devoted father, friend and lover of life. Survived by his children, Kirk Hendry, of Baton Rouge, and Lisa Hendry, of Huntsville, Ala.; four grandchildren, Christopher Gyorok, Ashley Gyorok, Rich Hedley and Breanna Hendry; great-grandchild, Ty Gabriel Linder; and half brother, Richard Hendry, of Roseland. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernell Hendry, who was of Roseland, and Hilda Coats Hendry Couch, who was of Springfield. Also preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Lorraine James Hendry. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Broadmoor United Methodist Church on Monday, July 13, at 4 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Lee McKinzie. Masonic last rites ceremony will also be performed by a member of the St. James Masonic lodge. A reception will follow at the church. Mr. Hendry donated his remains to the LSU Medical School/Bureau of Anatomical Services for the advancement of science in hopes of helping future generations. Lorraine James Hendry died Monday, April 11, 2005, at her home in Prairieville. She was 75, born Sept. 20, 1929, in Detroit and was a native of Florence, Colo. She retired in 1992 from the State of Louisiana after working many years for the Office of the Secretary of State and the Department of Natural Resources. Her love of art will be forever preserved in the many paintings she created. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved to travel.
