Graveside service for Mrs. Hilda Morgan Heres, age 97, of Bastrop, formerly of Baton Rouge, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at All Faiths Chapel Mausoleum at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge, with the Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Heres; her parents, T.C. Morgan and Corinne Griffin Morgan; and six siblings. Mrs. Heres was a longtime resident of Kentwood, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Northwestern State College and taught school a year in Beauregard Parish. She met and married Harold Heres in New Orleans while she was in training as a nurse at the Hotel Dieu, where her two daughters, Ann and Geraldine were born. During World War II, while she and her husband were living in Miami, she worked as a dress designer. When they returned to Baton Rouge, Mrs. Heres became active in volunteer work. She was a life member of Our Lady of Lake Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president for two years, gift shop manager for eight years and director of volunteers for two years. She was also a life member of the Baton Rouge General Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president for a year and gift shop manager for four years. She was the president of Volunteers of America Auxiliary, and for many years served as clothing chairman and directed two very successful bazaars for the benefit of underprivileged children. Mrs. Heres also served on the board of the American Red Cross and was a member of the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. Her greatest ambition was fulfilled in 1975, when with 12 members she organized the Patchwork Pelican Quilting Club, Chapter XXVII, Louisiana No. 1, affiliated with the National Quilting Association, Greenbelt, Md. Mrs. Heres is survived by her two daughters, Ann Heres Barham of Bastrop and Geraldine Heres Hightower of Homer; five grandchildren, Pamela David Harris and husband Michael of Memphis, Tenn., Kathryn Hightower Hightower and husband Bill of Homer, Claire Barham Anderson of Baton Rouge, Henry Alfred Barham III and wife Jeanne of Metairie, and Emilia Barham McCue and husband Robert of Bastrop; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a special niece, Shirley Morgan Coleman of Montgomery, Ala. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home in Ruston, or to the Organ Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. ***************************************************************************
