He served in the U.S. Army for 18 months and was stationed in Kobe, Japan. He received a bachelor of science degree in vocational agriculture from LSU in 1951 and was a member of Alpha Tau Alpha fraternity. He received a master's degree in education in 1956 and plus 30 hours certification in 1968 from LSU. He was a retired agriculture teacher and assistant administrator at Albany High School with 331/2 years of service. At the time of his death, he was manager of the Fourth Ward Water Association and president of the board of directors. He also served as a board member of the Louisiana Rural Water Association. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Independence, and a deacon since December 1957.
