She was a loving wife and dedicated mother for sixty plus years. A native of Tylertown, Mississippi she was a longtime Hammond resident who resided in Ponchatoula for the last five years. She was a Piano Music major at Southeastern Louisiana College, Brownie/Girl Scout Leader, former Gulf Coast Beauty Queen, a charter member of Oak Knoll Country Club, a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and a member of the Louisiana Arabian Horse Association. She was preceded in death by her parents Deanie and R.S. Ginn, her brother Bobby Ginn and her beloved husband Herman "H. D." Dennis Himel, Jr. She is survived by her three daughters Elaine H. Gault, Katy, TX., Martha H. Cooper, Ponchatoula, Mary H. Todd, Hebron, KY., their husbands and her grandchildren, Brook Indest, Courtney Slaughter, Matthew Todd, Benjamin Gault, Heather, Robin and Kyle Cooper. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, from 9:00-11:00a.m. with a mass to follow. Burial will be at Holly Gardens, Hammond. Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Norman Lucien Himel. Devoted mother of Sandra Gremp (Al), Norman L. Himel, Jr. (Sheila), Rebecca White (Jim), Angela Tobler (Pat), and Stephen Himel (Susan). Grandmother of Lori Leonard, Wendy Gremillion, Adam Gremp, Norman L. Himel III, Joshua and Christian White, Chad, Jonathan, and Patrice Tobler, and Laura Himel. Also survived by six great-grandchildren. Born in Opelousas, La. A former resident of New Orleans and Chalmette, and a resident of Hammond since Hurricane Katrina. She will always be remembered for her ministry of hospitality, intercessory prayer and her love for God and people. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at E.J. Biloxi - Hammond native and longtime resident of the coast, Walter Louis Himel Sr., 70, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003. He is the former owner of Himel Auto Parts in N. Biloxi and was retired from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Perkinston Campus where he was the first instructor and helped develop the automotive parts sales and management courses. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and Biloxi Elks Lodge 606. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict Survivors include two sons, Walter Louis Himel Jr. of Biloxi and Scott Dennis Himel of Meridian; two brothers, Ray Himel of New Iberia and Jamie Himel of Morgan City; three sisters, Marjorie Galloway of Hammond, Dorothy Koen of Memphis, Tenn., and Patsy Gill of Slidell; and two grandchildren. His wife, Carol J. Himel; his parents, Herman D. and Gladys Himel; one brother, H.D. Himel; and one sister, Cora Mae Kuykendall, preceded him in death. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, Miss., and Wednesday from noon until a Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
