The brother was borrowing a pump gun and was in the act of unloading it when it discharged killing his niece as she was sleeping on a near-by bed. He was born on Thursday, February 12, 1920, in McNary, La. Mr. Hinson graduated from Louisiana State University and was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He owned Hinson Department Store in Ponchatoula for 40 years. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Theresa Jason Hinson; daughter & son-in-law, Laurie Hinson and Tommy Cranford; 2 sons, Mike Hinson and Jack Hinson and wife Jerri; 5 grandchildren, Casey, Ryan, Evan, Jill, and Kit; and 4 great-grandchildren, Fisher, Abbey, Brianna, and Brooke.
