She was 81, born Sunday, June 21, 1925, in Lake Charles, the daughter of the late John Rodger and Rachel Mamie Book Richardson. Mrs. Hite graduated from LSU with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She taught at Holy Ghost Catholic School for more than 20 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Group and a charter member of the University Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. She also enjoyed playing bridge. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Dr. Verl John "Jack" Hite; two sons, Verl John Hite Jr. and James Michael Hite; daughter, Jill Marie Hite Worth; and six grandchildren, Dylan, Nicholas and Cassandra Hite, Adam, Jeffrey and Meggy Worth. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Richardson Willard. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Friday, March 23, from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Interment in the Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dr. Verl "Jack" John Hite Sr., 90 years old of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Live Oak Village. He was born on Tuesday, December 12, 1922, in LaPorte City, Iowa, son of the late Verl Henry and Lena Gregg Hite. Dr. Hite was a Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University for over 30 years. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He was also a member of the Hammond City Club and many other civic organizations. Surviving are his sons & daughters-in-law, Verl John, Jr. and Debra Hite, James Michael and Juli Hite; daughter & son-in-law, Jill Marie Hite and Steve Worth; 6 grand- children, Dylan, Nicholas and Cassandra Hite, Adam, Jeffrey, and Meggy Worth; great-grandchildren, Porter Hite, and Adair Worth. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Richardson Hite; brothers, Norman and William Hite; sisters, Frances Clark, and Doris Dinsdale. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel in Hammond on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Mausoleum, Hammond, Louisiana.
