Albee Hoffman, 27, son of Paul Hoffman of Ponchatoula, was almost instantly killed at noon Friday when he was crushed beneath a log which fell from a truck near Woodville, Miss. The body was brought to Hammond where funeral services were held at noon Saturday. Mr. Gregory C. "Slick" Hoffman, Sr., born March 9, 1937, a native of Metairie and resident of Independence, suddenly passed away at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA, Tuesday morning, May 18, 2010, at age 73. Greg attended St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic School in Metairie, LA. Greg lived a gallant life. He was the rock of his family and never turned his back on others. His legacy will live on in the lives of those left behind. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 130 and although an electrician by trade enjoyed tinkering with small engines and automobiles and was the best fix-it man around. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Margie Devenport Hoffman, his father, Philip J. Hoffman, Sr., mother, Alma Strauss Hoffman, brother, Philip J. Hoffman, Jr., and sisters Alice Hoffman Heikamp and Shirley Mae Hoffman. He is survived by his beloved son Gregory Charles Hoffman, Jr. and his wife Sharon, and his devoted daughters, Christine H. Ragas and her husband John, Suzanne H. Ruch and her husband Jerry, and Rebecca H. Jones and her husband Donnie. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Chris and his wife Rachel, William and his wife Giuliana, Tara, Ashley, Bobby, Greg III, Jessica, Shelbi, Courtni, Megann, Bradlee, Alex and Christian. Greg also leaves behind his precious great-grandchildren: Bryce, Taylor, Ryan, Donovan, Harley, Lane, Brayden and Sophia. Also, survived by loving sister-in-law Dianne D. Cox and her husband, Danny. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and family members whose lives will forever be enriched by his memory. She fought a courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Margie was a beautiful person who touched so many lives. Her kind, caring, compassionate spirit will live on in the lives of those who knew her. She loved to spend time, especially the holidays, with family who will miss her dearly. Margie attended Nichols High School in New Orleans. She received her GED much later in life as she unselfishly cared for her family and raised four children. She worked many years as a telephone/switchboard operator and a bookkeeper. She went on to earn her certification as a real estate agent. But her most prized and precious roles in life were those of daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - no one could have ever hoped and prayed for better. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Joseph Seymour Devenport, Sr., her devoted mother, Margaret ÒTuttieÓ Nehlig Devenport, her precious sister, Shirley Mae Devenport, and her loving brother Joseph S. Devenport, Jr. She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 52 years, Gregory Charles Hoffman, Sr., devoted sister Dianne D.
