Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Visitation at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. She is survived by her brother, Alvin Norton; three children, Jonas T. Holdeman Jr., Janie J. Holdeman Dean and David E. Holdeman; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonas Tillman Holdeman; a son, Louis B. Holdeman; a sister, Hilda Norton Lee; and brothers, Edward W. Norton Jr. and Lawrence T. Norton. She was a native of Rawl Springs, Miss., grew up in Hammond and Baton Rouge and was a graduate of Istrouma High School and LSU. She retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board after 22 years of service as a librarian and elementary school teacher. She continued to teach for five years in Ascension Parish at East Ascension Academy, where she was Teacher of the Year for two of the years, and later taught at False River Academy in New Roads. She was a Fulbright exchange teacher in Colchester, England, met with the Queen Mother and participated in archeological studies at Cambridge. She was past worthy matron of Istrouma Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, and past worthy high priestess of Bethlehem Shrine 4 of Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
