She was born in Independence on Oct. 26, 1918. She graduated from Albany High School where she played basketball. After her marriage she lived in Hammond all her adult life before moving to North Carolina five years ago to live with her son. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Holley; her mother, Clara Johnson; her father, Henry A. Johnson; and four brothers, Cline Johnson, Woodrow Johnson, Oswald "Dub" Johnson and Eugene Johnson. She was a retired Louisiana school bus owner/driver, a charter member of the Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond, a member of the Fern Leaf Chapter of the Eastern Star, Hammond, and a past president of the Tangipahoa Travelers Camping Club. She is survived by her son, the Rev. George L. Holley Jr. (Chaplain at Craggy Correctional Center in Asheville) and his wife, Patsy; four grandchildren, John M. Holley, of Fredrick, Md., Anita H. Jensen, of Brevard, N.C., Nancy H. Russell, of Asheville, N.C., and James M. Holley of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Ivie Jean Wagoner and Nellie Lee Soiginer, both of Louisiana; a brother-in-law, Robert S. Holley and his wife, Vivian, of Baton Rouge; three great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and an hour on Thursday prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond. Officiating will be the Rev. Pete Charpentier and the Rev. Ed Griffin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Woodland Park Baptist Church, 1909 J.W. Davis Drive, Hammond, LA, 70403. Rowland Powell Holley Sr. died Tuesday, June 21, 2005. He was born Jan. 22, 1917, in the community of Happy Woods outside of Hammond. He was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1944 and retired from Ethyl Corp. with 35 years of service. He was a longtime member and deacon of the former North Highlands Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school director for 25 years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Park Forest Baptist Church. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, June 23, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation on Friday from 9 a.m. until service in the chapel at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jeffery C. Holley. He is survived by five children and their spouses, Powell and Pat Holley of Bluff Creek, Michael and Billie Anne Holley of The Bluffs, Jeff and Nelda Holley of Tampa, Fla., Elizabeth and Ted Mims of Springfield, Ill., and Kim and Dewanna Holley of Port Vincent; brother, Robert "Bob" Holley of Baton Rouge; sister, Norma Hill of Groesbeck, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lucille Holley; father and mother, George and Edna Mae Holley; two brothers, George and Carl Holley; and two sisters, Vera Thompson and Myrtle Chapman.
