She was 72, a resident of Albany, a native of Baptist and a member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church. She leaves behind her husband, Rex Garon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tawana and E.D. Purvis and Connie and Billy Ray Bankston; and son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Brenda Hoover. Helen was adored by her two supportive granddaughters, Leslie Bankston and Dana Carpenter, along with 13 other grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren and their spouses, Dale, Peggy, Lori, Richard and his wife, Monette, Timmy and his wife, Laura, and Duane and his wife, Vicki Garon. She will be sadly missed by her only surviving sister, Elizabeth "Sis" Owens Burrow, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie E. Hoover; parents, Jim and Bessie Owens; sisters, Bessie Owens and Ora Stewart Zimmerman; and brothers, Smiley and Oscar Owens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brad and Chad Purvis, Jacob and Brent Bankston and Scott and Jim Hoover. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from Old Zion Hill Baptist Church, Independence, on Friday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 La. 190 W, Hammond, on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 8 a.m. until service, conducted by the Rev. Charles Reitz and the Rev. Mitch Williams. Interment in the church cemetery. The family would like to say "thank you" to Dr. Kozel, Dr. Fields, Dr. Oubra and Dr. Kidd for their kindness and care during Helen's illness. The family would especially like to thank Metro Home Health Services for their dedication and thoughtfulness to Helen.
