She was a native of Amite. She is survived by one son, Willie D. Hornsby of Amite; five sisters, Eva Mae Adams and Mary Brumfield, both of Amite, Mary Hornsby of New Orleans, Golden Dorsey and Gloria Mobley, both of Monroe, Ga., and Johnnie Mae Batiste of Atlanta; five brothers, Robert Stephens and Esco Hornsby Jr., both of Amite, J.R. Hornsby of Baton Rouge, Rosco Hornsby of New Orleans and Nathan Hornsby of Tacoma, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esco Hornsby Sr. and Zola Mae Hornsby; one brother, Bennie Hornsby; and one sister, Bertha Dell Hornsby. Visitation will be Friday at Grant Chapel AME Church, Amite, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Alexander Giles will conduct the funeral Saturday at noon. Burial will be in Nettle Cemetery, Greensburg. He was 61, a resident of Mandeville, a native and former resident of Baton Rouge and former longtime resident of Greensburg. He was a retired iron worker and former member of Local 623, Baton Rouge. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, LA 70401. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 8/3/2013 HORNSBY, ERNEST EUGENE Ernest Eugene Hornsby passed away Sunday morning at 11:54 at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was born in Hammond, Louisiana on November 27, 1928. Gene grew up in Grangeville, LA., where he fell in love with the Amite River, fishing and hunting with his dad, brothers and school-yard friends. After graduating from Greensburg High School in 1945, he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951 at Cape Mae, New Jersey as Yeoman First Class. He then re-enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve and was honorably discharged on April 5, 1954. Gene was a lifelong employee of Ethel Corp., with over 32 years of service. He was married for 64 years to his wife Arvie. Both were avid LSU baseball fans for over 27 years. He was preceded in death by his first-born son, Robert E. Hornsby. He is survived by his wife, Arvie J. Hornsby; sister Eloise Wales; brothers Robert E., Lawrence E. and Frank Roger Hornsby and their wives; two daughters, Marilyn H. Furlong and Ellen H. Garver, and a son, James A. Hornsby; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Blake, Jeff, Bryan and Lucas Hornsby, Jonathan and Jason Furlong. Services will be held at Seale Funeral Home Denham Springs with visitation from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday August 2nd, and from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3rd.
