Born on January 3, 1922, Bert was a native and lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, LA. After serving in the navy during WWII, Bert graduated from Southeastern majoring in math. He worked his way up to manager of A.R. Blossman/Petrolane Gas Co. and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He spent his free time at his camp on the Tangipahoa River or his boathouse constructing wooden furniture and creative inventions. Bert is survived by his second wife, Ruth McManus Howes, three children: Fan Disher (spouse Brennan), Kim Zabbia (spouse Bob) and Ricky Howes (spouse Lisa), his brother Ken Howes (spouse Joan), seven grandchildren, five stepdaughters, fourteen step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Hendry Howes, and his parents, Eulalie and Bert C. Howes. Stephen was a 1968 graduate of Ponchatoula High and attended LSU. He served full-time in the Louisiana National Guard, which he loved, and retired as a Sergeant Major. He enjoyed golf, fishing, weekly card games with his buddies, and in retirement, growing strawberries for family and friends.
