She was born on Tuesday, July 14, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, daughter of the late Frederick Joseph Olivier and the late Estelle Rousseau Olivier both of New Iberia. Barbara was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy, New Iberia, and Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, an alum and charter member of the Kappa Tau Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Hammond, as well as the Yellow Jackets/Kappa Rho sorority of Hammond. She was a loyal volunteer at the Shadows on the Teche, Iberia Parish Visitor's Center, North Lewis Mentor Program, Greater Federal Women's Club's; and Regent for two terms with the New Iberia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She organized the Iberia Street Neighborhood Watch Association and was one of the organizers of Keep New Iberia Beautiful and the president as well as a champion of the rights of people to protect themselves and their neighborhoods from crime and decay. After moving to Hammond, she became active in the Southeastern Feline Club, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Duplicate Bridge Club and Hammond Garden Club. She was the mother of Gregory Olivier Hoyt and Steven Brill Hoyt and grandmother of Christina Olivier Hoyt. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ronald Hoyt, her grandparents, Louis Paul Olivier and Felicie Labbe Olivier of St. Martinville and Louis Daniel Rousseau and Barbara Bittern Rousseau of New Orleans.
