CHARLES B. A celebration of the life of the Rev. Charles B. Humphreys will be conducted at Lakeview United Methodist Church, 5550 S. Lakeshore Drive, Shreveport, on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at 2:30 p.m., followed by visitation with the family at the church. Officiating will be Dr. William Peeples, Dr. Ed Thomas, the Rev. Larry Miller and Dr. Winn Alley. There will be a service at First United Methodist Church, Hammond, at noon Monday, Sept. 22, 2003. The Rev. Ricky Willis and Dr. Carl Rhodes will officiate. Interment in Rose Memorial Park, Hammond. Visitation at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home, Shreveport, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Humphreys died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Christus Schumpert Highland Medical Center. The Rev. Humphreys was born in Moultrie, Ga., on Jan. 6, 1937. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and Chandler School of Theology at Emory University. He entered the ministry in 1961 and served 42 years in full-time ministry until his retirement in June 2003 from the Louisiana Annual Conference. The United Methodist churches the Rev. Humphreys served are First UMC, Hammond (associate pastor), University UMC, Baton Rouge (associate pastor), First UMC, Gonzales (pastor), Wesley UMC, Sulphur and Hackberry UMC (pastor), first UMC, Mansfield and Grand Cane UMC (pastor), Springhill UMC and Sarepta UMC (pastor), First UMC, Hammond (pastor), Christ UMC, Shreveport (senior pastor), and Lakeview UMC, Shreveport (pastor). Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Glenda Reinhardt Humphreys of Shreveport; daughters, Lauri Moore and husband Maj. Kevin Moore, Bossier City, and Carolyn Dawson and husband, Anthony Dawson, Maui, Hawaii; two grandsons, Benjamin Moore and Adam Moore; twin brother, the Rev. James Humphreys, Lake Charles; and mother-in-law, Mary Penn Reinhardt. The Rev. Humphreys was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Cross Humphreys; and a son, John Charles Humphreys. He brought joy to every life he touched throughout his lifetime, and he was a greatly loved and dedicated pastor, known throughout the state for his humor and wit. Pallbearers will be Tony Nations, Ernie Bonniveir, Ted Lewis, Billy Burnell, Ron Rice, Mark Waniewski and Stuart Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are the clergy of the Louisiana Annual Conference.
