She was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Schriever, Louisiana to Curtis and Elizabeth "Bessie" Causey. Betty lived most of her life in St. Charles Parish. Betty and Leroy celebrated 55 years of marriage in May. Betty was known as Wife, Mom, Maw Maw, Gigi, and Ma Betty by many. Her love for babies will carry on in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Betty departed this earth at home surrounded by her family. Those left to treasure her memory include her husband Leroy F. Hymel of Norco; her children: Curt (Tina) Hymel of Independence, Cindy (David) Sears of Lake Charles, Tracy (Jerry) Comeaux of Luling, Stacy (Dwayne) Matherne of Destrehan, Debbie Montejo of Destrehan, Angela (Dennis) Roussell of Picayune, MS, and Craig "Beau" (Leslie) Hymel of Norco; her grandchildren: Brock Hymel, Devin Schexnayder, Amy (Thomas Jr.) Comeaux, Mandy Hymel, Sonya Schexnayder, Nicole Matherne, Jon' Michael Schexnayder, Abby (Justin) Sbisa, Katie Hymel, Curtis Hymel, Philip Montejo, Derek Matherne, Rebecca (Robert Jr.) Oubre, William Sears, Richard Sears, Stephen Montejo, Jamie Hymel, and Cody Hymel; great grandchildren: Logan Lee, Lennon and Harrison Lomonaco, Ryan and Ella Comeaux, Shea Comeaux, Quinton Hymel, and Sebastian Mason. Betty is survived by her sister, Joyce Breaux of Gonzales, her brother Curtis "Butch" (Sue) Causey of St. Amant, her brother inlaws Thomas (Myrtis) Hymel of LaPlace, Rockne (Sylvia) Hymel of New Sarpy, and Lionel (Anne) Hymel III of Destrehan. Those to greet her were her son Leroy Hymel Jr., her parents Curtis and Elizabeth "Bessie" Landry Causey, her stepfather Philip Mackey, her in-laws Lionel and Louise LaCroix Hymel Jr., her brother Louis Causey, her brother in-law Charles "Black" Breaux, and her sister in-laws Elva Hymel Friloux and Ester Hymel. Visitation will be on Friday September 20, 2013 from 9:30am to 11:00am. A funeral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00am followed by entombment at St. Charles Borromeo. She was the daughter of William Eugene and Winifred Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin and her brother Elmer Johnson of Hammond, LA. Dorothy and Melvin were lifelong residents of New Orleans. She is survived by one son, Jerry Hymel (wife Paula)of Hammond, LA; two daughters, Shula Hymel Turpin (husband Malcolm) of Indianapolis, IN, and Connie Hymel Nielsen (husband Richard) of Acworth, Ga.; five grandchildren Wade Hymel (wife Laura Morales Hymel), Teddy Hymel (wife Laura MacIntyre Hymel), Jacqueline Turpin, Chad Nielsen, and Victoria Nielsen; and five great grandchildren Kelsey, Ryan, Gabriella, Alexa and Katie Hymel.
