Hillery V. Iverstine, 90 years old of Hammond, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, in Hammond Nursing Home. He was born on Wednesday, October 15, 1919, in Tickfaw, son of the late John Iverstine Sr. and the late Ethel Stafford Iverstine. Mr. Iverstine served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Lois Iverstine; son & daughter-in-law, Ernest "Tubby" and Debbie Iverstine; 5 grandchildren, Michelle and husband Frank Nicosia III, Connie and husband Doug Firmin, Tammi Koheler, Steve Delaune, and Susan Kinchen; 10 great-grandchildren, Renee' Zeron, Micki Firmin, Kayla Nicosia, Frank "Mitch" Nicosia IV, Tyler Nicosia, Stormi Baham, Stefani Baham, Steven Koheler, Samantha Koheler, and Brittney Burns; great-great-grandchild, Miley Zeron; brother, John Iverstine Jr. and wife Vicky; and sister-in-law, Rita Iverstine. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Hillery "Billy" V. John R. Iverstine Jr., 84, born Feb. 20, 1926, in Tickfaw, passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had an inherent gift of sharing words of wisdom flavored with a sense of humor. The wisdom that he imparted to his family will be passed down to many generations to come. John was "a discerning man who always kept wisdom in view..." Proverbs 17:24. He so enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their many athletic, school and life activities. John served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his return from military service, he worked at Hood Motor Co. in Amite and later was employed with Ethel Corp. for six years. He worked for Ormet Corp. for 30 years until his retirement. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Victoria Candiotto Iverstine; children, Tommy Iverstine, Jim Iverstine and wife Terri, Jack Iverstine and wife Brenda, and daughter Jennifer Iverstine and friend Craig Brunees; grandchildren, Trey Iverstine and fiancˇ Jessica Boudreaux, Wade and wife Jenny Iverstine, Casey Iverstine, Todd Iverstine, Andrew and wife Erica Iverstine, and Galen Iverstine; and great-grandchildren, Gweneth Rose Iverstine and Avery Lynn Iverstine. She was born on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1919, in Natalbany. Mrs. Iverstine was retired from J.C. Penney's. She was always involved in activities not only with her family but many other people in the community. She was a former president of the PTA. Mrs. Iverstine loved fishing and hunting with her family and many of the neighborhood kids. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Russell Charles "Doodle" and Connie Iverstine; grand- daughter and special friend, Kristy Shannon Iverstine and Leon Alfano; sister and brother-in-law, Clonnie and David Hess; two sisters-in-law, Victoria C. Iverstine and Lilly Addison; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cornelius "Pap" Iverstine; parents, Cleon and Ida Burgess Addison; son and daughter-in-law, Joe C. Iverstine Jr. and Kay Baker Iverstine; daughter, Dorothy Jo (infant); and six siblings, Clyde, Norman, Penny, Carl, Margarite and Estelle.
