She was the seventh of fourteen children born to that union. She was baptized at an early age under the leadership of her grandfather, the late Reverend Boss Self, at Baker's A.M.E. Zion Church. In college she was a member of "Students For Christ" where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was rebaptized at Bethany World Prayer Center in Baker, Louisiana. She was affiliated with numerous United Penecostal Churches during her many educational and work endeavors. In later years she became a member of New Testament Christian Center in Montgomery, Alabama where she served tirelessly in many areas including signing during church services. She also sang in a quartet, the "Shades of Glory". Sandra graduated number 1 in her class, Summa Cum Laude, 4.0, from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in May 1980 in Accounting and Computer Science. He is survived by his three children, Leslie Anne Johnson Miller and husband Gordon of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Walker Holloway Johnson of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Sally Stuart Johnson Kelly and husband Ernest of Chevy Chase, Md.; four grandchildren, Christian Ives Miller of Cambridge, Mass., Stuart Byron Kelly, Erin Sumner Kelly and Winston Bradford Kelly, all of Chevy Chase, Md.; and the families of Herman Hamric Holloway and Charles Rupert Holloway of Baton Rouge. Born, Dec. 3, 1918, in Franklin, Va. to Gaius L. Hadden Johnson and Lelia Gary Johnson. Mr. Johnson married Catherine Holloway of Amite, La,, in 1941. They moved in 1947 to Baton Rouge, where he became a partner in the Holloway Companies. Despite his love for Louisiana, enthusiastic support of the LSU Tigers, talent as a raconteur of Cajun jokes, he considered himself a Virginian first. Mr. Johnson attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, from 1937 to 1941, serving as president of his junior and senior classes. He served as lieutenant commander of the ROTC Corps of Cadets, and was an officer of his social organization, The German Club. He remained an active alumnus and "Hokies" fan throughout his life. He was a Member of the "$500,000.00 Club" for contributing alumni and also endowed the Stuart and Catherine Johnson Emerging Leader Scholarship in the Engineering School there in 1999. A decorated U.S. Army Air Corps major, he served in World War II in the Pacific theater under Gen. Curtis LeMay as a mission planning and analysis officer. After the war, he returned to Virginia Tech to earn a master of science degree in chemical engineering. Mr. Johnson enriched the lives of all who knew him through service and generosity to family, friends, and community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served there as both Elder and Deacon (1962-1972) and a longtime Sunday school teacher. He had been a member of the Rotary Club since 1955. He also served on the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Patrons Board, leading efforts to increase tax support for Baton Rouge's public libraries. For nine years he drove elderly and low-income patients to doctors' appointments as a volunteer for the FISH program. He loved tennis and was a charter member of the Bocage Racquet Club. A lifelong love of classical music made him a strong supporter of the Baton Rouge Symphony and Baton Rouge public radio. Whatever need presented itself, his first response was always, "How can I help?" He is remembered for his sense of humor, "joie de vivre," intellect, empathy, love of art, travel and Big Band music, great stories and countless acts of kindness.
