Born in Greenwood, Miss., on June 30, 1918, Frank was the third child to Means Johnston (attorney for LeFleur County, Miss.,) and Annie Wilsford Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Anne Hughes Johnston Emmons, Admiral Means Johnston Jr., and William Edward Johnston; his first wife, Helene Murray, who was of Staten Island, N.Y.; and his second wife, Georgine Stewart Burt, who was of Hammond. He is survived by his stepdaughter and stepson, Rebecca Burt and Edward Burt, of Hammond; three nephews, two nieces, and multiple grand- nephews and grandnieces. As a young man, Frank attended the Greenbrier Military Academy, White Sulfur Springs, W.Va., and the University of Mississippi at Oxford. He enlisted in August 1941, and was assigned as a class specialist, keeping the officers' records at the Las Vegas Gunnery School for the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was discharged in January 1946, as a staff sergeant. Upon returning home after the war, Frank went to work for Billups Petroleum Co. in the Greenwood Tire, Battery and Accessory Department, rising to senior vice president of Operations at his retirement in 1983. Frank will be remembered as an avid bird hunter, a fabulous dancer, a lover of all SEC football games and the epitome of a Delta gentleman. Graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. An online guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 4/6/2007 JOHNSTON, GEORGINE STEWART BURT Georgine Stewart Burt Johnston of Hammond passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. Georgine was born in Bogalusa on Aug. 15, 1926, the daughter of Georg and Beatrice Holliday Stewart. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ben Allen Burt; brothers, Lt. Jesse Elmo Stewart and M.L. "Pete" Stewart; and sister, Evie Stewart King. Georgine attended LSU and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. While at LSU, she joined Phi Mu fraternity and while at Southeastern, was a member of Kappa Rho sorority. She was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a member of the Monday Afternoon Bridge Club, an evening supper club, and Oak Knoll Country Club. An accomplished hostess, multiple generations enjoyed holidays and summers at "Miss Georgine's" pool. She is survived by her husband, Frank Wilsford Johnston of Hammond; daughter, Rebecca Ann Burt of Houston; son, Edward Allen Burt of Hammond; and a bevy of good friends. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, April 6, from 6 p.m. until recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. in the chapel. He was a native of Shreveport, a sandblaster and painter for Sunland Fabricators and a member of Painter's Local 728. He is survived by one daughter, Carrie Michelle Johnston of Holden; one step- daughter, Thesel A. Roundtree of Holden; and one son, Jamie R. Johnston of Baton Rouge; one sister, Brenda J. Posey of Denham Springs; two step- sisters, Cynthia and Marion Kimble, both of Baton Rouge; one brother, Billy Ray Johnston of Denham Springs; and one stepbrother, Jerry Kimble of Baton Rouge.
