He was a pioneer gospel radio announcer and promoter. He served as a board member of Tangipahoa Heritage Committee and the Tangipahoa Diner Committee. James was a faithful member of the Greater Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a devoted deacon. He was a member of the choir, served as both a mentor and member of the Pace Committee. He also helped to organized the annual Father and Son Day event. He leaves to cherish his memory, a lovely wife, Rosaland Primas Jones; a daughter, Ulinda Tobias Wiggins (Jesse); two grandsons, Jarvares and Justin; his only sister, Bertha Norman (George) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a brother, Henry B. Jones (Angella) of St. Louis, Missouri.; two sisters-in-law, Marie Jones and Ella Tillis, both of Hammond; one uncle, Illinois (Lillie) Jones of Hammond; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and other children in Christ.
