Born February 20, 1919 in Springfield, LA, Ernestine was the daughter of Joseph & Boncelli Cooks. In 1940, Ernestine was united in marriage to Phillip Keith, Sr. to their union they had seven children. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1997. Ernestine retired from Sanderson Farm where she was a dedicated employee for over 25 years. She was a committed servant to the Lord and worked tirelessly as a faithful member of Greater Rosehill Baptist Church. She was survived by her children, DeLores Keith Watts, Phillip Keith, Jr., Edward (Lucy) Keith, all of Hammond, LA; Earl (Shirley) Keith of Slidell, LA; Helen Keith Mitchell of Benton Harbor, MI; McKinley (Florence) Keith of Oakland, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Regretfully Matthew Keith of Oakland, CA her oldest child, joined her death on July 28, 2008, his memory will be cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Josephine Winn, Elizabeth Bolton; and brother Alphonse Cooks. He was a native of Covington and had been a resident of Gulfport for two years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gulfport and a graduate of Jennings High School where he played football. He was a student at Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and was also employed at Allen Beverage Co. in Gulfport, Miss.
