He was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Norton, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a longtime Baton Rouge Police officer and a retired sheet metal worker with Local 21. He was a Jehovah's Witness and was affiliated with the Kingdom Hall in Walker, where he was among family. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Dec. 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the funeral home chapel on Friday, Dec. 30, from 8 a.m. until services at 10 a.m., conducted by Elder Ernie Branscom. Burial to follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Welch Kirkpatrick, of Walker; his daughter, Sharon Kirkpatrick, of Walker; granddaughter, Ashton Kirkpatrick, of Walker; and his honorary daughter, Sue Hodges, of Central. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicky Kirkpatrick Woolfolk; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Kirkpatrick; and his brother, William "Bill" Kirkpatrick. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 2/19/2011 KIRKPATRICK, IRA LEE, JR. Ira Lee Kirkpatrick Jr., 87, a life-long resident of Noxapater, Miss., died Feb. 15, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lucille Graham Kirkpatrick; his son, Ira Lee III (Sharon) of McDonough, Ga.; daughter Lillian (Joseph) Mirando, of Ponchatoula, La.; three grand- children, Lucy Mirando of Los Angeles, Lisa Kirkpatrick (Jantsen Haney) of Morrow, Ga., and Navy Airman Aaron Kirkpatrick of the USS WASP at Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Ann Fulton of Brandon, Miss.; nieces and nephews. Brothers Jimmy and Joe Davis and sister Nancy McBrayer preceded him in death. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a retired educator, farmer and member of Noxapater Baptist Church. In his youth, he played football for Noxapater, East Central Community College and Southern Mississippi. In 1942-45, he served valiantly with the 104th Division, 414 Regiment, 1st Battalion Company A (Timberwolf) in the march across Europe. He witnessed the bombing of Cologne and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, the fighting in the Ardenne Forest, the crossing of the Rohr, the liberation of Nordhausen concentration camp and the meeting of the US troops with the Russians at Hallee, Germany. He earned a bachelorŐs degree at Southern Mississippi, masterŐs degrees in business education and counseling from Mississippi College and specialist degrees in education and psychology from Mississippi State. He also furthered his education at the University of Alabama. He taught history, government, bookkeeping and typing at Noxapater High from 1951 to 1988. Well-known for his love of gardening and travel, he shared his tomatoes and corn with friends all over the country. He and his wife dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus for the town Christmas parade for two decades. Visitation was at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, Louisville, Miss., Feb. 17 at 5-8 p.m. and Feb. 18 at the Noxapater Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Mt.
