He was a retired U.S. Postal Service supervisor and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Anne Martinez; two sons, John Irwin and Kenneth Leighton Kohler; three sisters, Hilda A. Joiner and Emma Hubbard, both of Baton Rouge, Dorothy Dougharty, Beaumont, Texas; brother, Warren Will Kohler, Springfield; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Kathryn Bozeman; a son, Karl L. Kohler; and a grandson, preceded him in death. Tommy Dillon conducted the funeral this afternoon at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, and burial was in Greenoaks Memorial Park. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 11/21/2006 KOHLER, WARREN WILL Warren Will "Jim" Kohler died November 10, 2006, in North Oaks Hospital. He was 85 and a native of Baton Rouge. His parents had a dairy farm on the Old Hammond Highway. During World War II, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in England, where he married an Englishwoman, Jean Howarth. Since he could not get any action in the Air Force, he switched to the Army and got his wish. He obtained three years of agricultural engineering at LSU and worked briefly as a welder and later had a successful career as an engineer. For a few years, he had a steel fabricating business. Around 1970, he moved to Livingston Parish where he has resided in Springfield ever since. He was a long-time member of the Louisiana Songwriters Association and a writer of numerous songs. He played the guitar and piano. He was a member of the Republican Party and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amelia Kohler; his infant son, Dane; his wife, Jean; and his long-time companion, Marguerite Abadie. He is survived by his daughter, Joy Kohler of New Orleans; sons, Turberville Kohler of California, Derek Kohler of Springfield, Llewellyn K. Kohler of Gainesville, Florida, Shannon F. Kohler of Walker, Livingston Parish, and his daughter, Vivien Schulz of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren. According to his wishes, he was cremated. There will be a memorial service Saturday, November 25, at the Unitarian Church, 8470 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge. Family will receive visitors and provide a buffet lunch 11:30 to 2 p.m. and at 2 p.m. the service will begin. On Sunday from 2 to 6, Joy Kohler will have an open house at her father's house.
